The 2016-2017 Networking Committee

Mission Statement:

The Networking Committee is devoted to helping promote an atmosphere where professional opportunities and connections for League members, panelists and guests are made.  Our Networking Panel discussions with an audience

Q & A, bring in outstanding theatre professionals from inside and outside of the League, to help foster further knowledge of the varied disciplines and opportunities for women in theatre.  Peer to Peer networking brings League members, non-members/prospective new members and panelists together in a nurturing and fun atmosphere of socializing.  Come and join your peers, expand your networks, and bring a potential new member!

Short Term goals for the year:

The Networking Committee continues to connect the different disciplines of LPTW through sponsoring events with Peer to Peer networking opportunities and panels of industry professionals. Here is a summary of the 2016-2017 program events:

1)  Young Women in the Theatre and Media and Their Projects: 

October 25, 2016 The Castillo Theater

6pm-8pm

Learn from the young professional dynamos who make it happen. Projects and strategies to create work for, by, and about women of all ages were topics of discussion. Panelists included LAURA ARCHER, Executive Director March Forth Production;            VALERIE BROOKS, Filmmaker/Director DP; CHRISTINE DIXON, Director/Producer/Actress/Singer, Harriet Tubman Herself, RACHEL GRIFFIN, Composer/Lyricist We Have Apples, MITRA JOUHARI, Writer/Comedian, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee;       MEGAN MINUTILLO, Director/Producer/Writer/ Arts Educator/ Founder, TheWriteTeachers.com; ELISABETH NESS, Producer/Actor/Creator, Redheads Anonymous; DANA VERDE, Filmmaker/Producer, The Perfect Match. 2)  Broadway/Off-Broadway Educational Theatre Practices & Career Paths:  February 20, 2017

Meet the Artistic Directors, Education Directors, Education Practitioners, and Producers who provide career path resources for women in the theatre. MODERATOR: KRISTIN SAKODA, Deputy Comissioner & General Counsel, The New York City Council of Cultural Affairs. Panelists included: JENNIFER DIBELLA, Director of Education at Roundabout Theatre Company;                          SOBHA KAVANAKUDIYIL, Faculty in the Graduate Program in Educational Theatre at the City College of New York/ Board of Directors for the NYC Arts-in-Education Roundtable; LINDA AMES KEY, CTE Drama Teacher at Fordham High School for the Arts/NYC DOE Arthur Miller Fellow; J.W. GUIDO, Actor/Director/ and Artistic Director for New York Deaf Theatre; LINDSEY BULLER MALIEKEL, New Victory Director of Education/ Public Engagement; KEESHON MORROW, Director of Arts and Culture at the Repertory Company High School for Theatre Arts; RACHEL REINER, Director of Audience Engagement at the Broadway League.

Long term over all goals:

While attracting prospective new members, The Networking Committee will continue to reach into the Theatrical community, providing a platform for League members to network with each other and industry professionals by promoting Peer to Peer engagement and industry panel discussions, designed to further the growth and development of Women in Theatre.

The Networking Committee is always open to new members.

Networking Committee 2016-2017 Salon Series Bourbon Street Bar and Grille 6pm-8pm

Mission StatementThe Salon Series, a sub-committee of The Networking Committee, provides members with a fun opportunity to share, explore, and discuss individual projects in an informal setting.  League members are encouraged to bring friends and colleagues who are not members to familiarize them with the League’s mission and all of its opportunities and to mingle and socialize. Meet new colleagues and friends and catch up with old. Bring your business cards!

*Short term goals for the year: Three events are scheduled during the course of the year at a pre-arranged venue to promote visibility and increase opportunities for women in the Professional Theatre.

1) Monday, September 26, 2016 – Welcome Younger and Older!

The Networking Salon Series cordially invites you to attend this all­-ages networking affair. Join fellow LPTW members in this wonderful opportunity to mingle with the women who blazed the trail along with the women who are planting new seeds on it. For aspiring LPTW members, volunteers will be on hand to show you how to take advantage of the amazing array of opportunities and benefits available with membership. Cheers to all!

2) Monday, November 14, 2016 – Let’s Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to join The Networking Salon Series in a special collaboration with NYWIFT! At this event, take the opportunity to give thanks to the inspiring people you’ve met and the people you will meet. Cheers to all!

3) Monday, January 9, 2017 – Looking Forward

As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Come join The Networking Salon Series as we confidently take on the New Year! Share your goals, hopes and dreams for 2016 at this fun and motivating event. We’re looking forward to seeing you.

Long term over all goals:  League members are encouraged to bring friends and colleagues who are non-members to familiarize them with the League’s mission and all of its opportunities.
