On Her Shoulders is pleased to present The Woman Hater by Frances Burney. Burney’s plays were lost until 1945, when the NY Public Library acquired her papers. Written circa 1800, The Woman Hater has been characterized as “the missing link between Sheridan and Wilde”, and shares its title with the 1607 play by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, which also lampoons misogyny.
Admission by donation ($10 suggested).
*The Play in Context, the dramaturgical and scholarly component that begins the evening, is sponsored in part by the LPTW. Stay with us for a post-reading discussion over wine and nibbles.
